5 things I love about my GoFastCamper.
Camped for the night high above Sedona AZ.
I’ve had my GFC for a few years now and I’m quite happy thus far! This setup has been bulletproof, and even with the numerous options out there I’m glad this is the route I went. Though there are a few changes I would make for sure, here are 5 things the folks in Belgrade, Montana definitely got right!
I looked at toppers like the GFC for two main reasons, the ability to stand up while still inside the tent, and being fast enough to set up for a quick task. I love having a built-in changing room for before and after hikes at busy trailheads, being able to change after a hike and not worry about someone seeing is very handy! A while back in Boulder, Co I ended up rather dirty after a tough hike, I was able to pop the top, clean up with a shower pouch, and change into fresh clothes before heading to dinner, all while parked in front of someones house on a busy street. And now I regularly take Lola out for a quick camp night up the road even on work nights, this would be a real pain with the full RV, but the GFC is perfect for those quick and easy getaways.
Up first, the strength and weight of this thing can’t be ignored. Sitting a tad under 250 pounds is impressive especially when the closed carrying capacity is 500 pounds(around 75 pounds open). The build quality of these toppers is unbelievable, I’m convinced these things would survive any wreck thrown at them and still open up so you can take a nap while waiting for the ambulance to arrive. Of all the toppers I’ve looked at over the years, none of them come close to this lightweight bomb shelter.
GFC is known for having extremely low profile tents, and while this can pose a problem for storing sleeping necessities, it's well worth being able to fit anywhere under about 7’2 or so. Closer to 6’10 without the trxstle fly rod carrier and 10’6 with my mountain bike mounted up top.
The modular floor, I really didn’t think I would like this, and I sometimes do find it annoying, but it’s been great overall. I like to keep one of the smaller squares down in the truck bed as a sort of seat cushion for when I’m relaxing before hitting the hay. And then when it’s time for bed, I just set it in place quick and easy. It also makes it easy to get down in the morning without disturbing the person, or puppy, sleeping next to you.
“Cabana Mode”. The ability to open all 3 sides completely has been a welcomed, if not surprising, convenience. Accessing gear at the front of the bed without crawling inside has never been easier, and on those warm summer days the added air flow is crucial for staying cool.
Filling up for adventure with about 100 pounds up top, no challenge for GFC.
Overall I’m stoked to have such a fast and simple camping setup, and while I do have a few complaints, they’re far outweighed by the love I have for this system! One honorable mention has to be the aftermarket community that has come along with these. There’s quite a few people making all sorts of goodies specifically for GFC products. Everything from flannel bed sheets to interior lighting systems, grab handles to mounts for anything you can think of, and much more. If you’re in the market for a roof top tent and topper, you won’t be disappointed with a Go Fast Camper.
